About Me

My name is Meghan Hussey. I am dedicated to inclusion within international development.

I am currently Director of Global Development and Government Relations at Special Olympics. I work with our partners in the global development sector on various sport for development initiatives. I also work with our seven regional offices on training and technical assistance to build the capacity of national organizations within our movement to engage with their governments.

My previous roles at the organization have been on our Global Youth and Education Team. There, I have led global evaluation of our co-curricular school-based inclusive programming which has been shown to improve attitudes towards students with disabilities and develop social-emotional learning skills in youth.

Prior to Special Olympics, I was International Field Director at Mosaic. There I oversaw inclusive development projects in East Africa and Eastern Europe. I also spent a year as an International Fellow for Mosaic in Moshi, Tanzania, where I worked with a local partner on young adult vocational training, inclusive education, preventative healthcare, and monitoring and evaluation.

I graduated with Distinction from the MSc in Global Health programme at Trinity College Dublin where I was a George J. Mitchell Scholar. I also have a BA (Magna Cum Laude) in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. For the 2012-2013 school year I was a Fulbright Student Scholar in China, where I conducted research on the development of programs and services for autistic adolescents and adults.

I bring to this field a deep commitment to disability inclusion because of my family background. My younger sister is autistic and has intellectual disability and my mother is a special education teacher. My combination of personal experience, academic training, and professional experience has helped me connect with, learn from, and contribute to collaborative efforts to increase inclusion.
